Been a collector myself since 1979. I LOVE the 1967-1977 ones the most. Finished the Original 1973-1977 run in 1993. Actually completed the Die Cuts in 1992, only cost about $150 to get all 44 in NM+. (No Ratz or Cracked variants tho :() My how times have changed. I do love the "Old School series Topps puts out every few years)

To be clear: they were never called wacky packs. As far as I know, it was always Wacky Packages.

Here’s another fast fact that they didn’t mention the Wacky Packages line actually gave birth to another popular line from Topps, Garbage Pail Kids! Yes indeed the iconic trading card line started when cartoonist and Topps consultant, Art Spiegelman, drew a sticker for Wacky Packages parodying the Cabbage Patch Kids doll line from Coleco. Although the Wacky Packages version was never released, the management at Topps thought it would make a great spin-off series. so Spiegelman teamed up with Mark Newgarden and John Pound to rework the original idea into a trading card line and the Garbage Pail Kids line was released in 1985 with the original series lasting for 3 years before being discontinued in 1988.

Did Topps ever get sued by a company for creating a Wacky Packages sticker without changing the product name?

In the past decade, some right-winger tried to revive these stickers, only instead of humorous parodies, they were Christian parodies, such as "Yahweh" instead of "Yahoo", "FedUp (with sinners)" instead of FexEx. Spare me!

I understand saving the funny stickers because they're collectable (even though some of them are kinda nasty in my opinion), but why would anyone save old gum? That's gross!

Some people who collect these stickers are shall we say "passionate". Few years ago I found three full boxes of the first edition punch-out Wacky Packs with the gum still in them. I made the mistake of putting some of the cards on ebay along with the background about my find. This is also before ebay hid the seller's contact information like phone number. Man, when those hard-core Wacky Pack collectors saw that I had some cards in unopened boxes my phone absolutely blew up with calls all hours of the day & night!!
